Working safely at height

This information has been developed to help managers implement the Council's policy for managing working at height and to assist you to understand your roles and responsibilities to ensure the council meets its statutory duty under the Work at Height Regulations 2005, as amended by the Work at Height (Amendment) Regulations 2007. The Regulations apply to all work at height where there is a risk of a fall liable to cause personal injury.

SWP Working safely at Height is aimed at managers who have employees that work at height in all areas of the council i.e. construction, schools, leisure etc.

If managers have employees that don't work at height very often or are unsure about which type of access equipment to use, it's important that you assess the risks and select the right equipment for the job. HSE work at height access equipment.

  • Work at Height Safety Association website
    The Work at Height Safety Association (WAHSA) was formed in 2005 by UK manufactures of height safety equipment. WAHSA acts as the UK lead body representing the interests of manufacturers, assemblers, installers, distributors and end users of equipment used for work at height and rescue.
  • The National Access and Scaffolding Confederation (NASC)
    The National Access and Scaffolding Confederation (NASC) is recognised as the national trade body for access and scaffolding in the UK, producing a wide range of industry guidance for scaffolding contractors, their operatives and their clients.
  • Prefabricated Access Suppliers' and Manufacturers' Association Limited (PASMA) (Tower Scaffolds)
    Prefabricated Access Suppliers' and Manufacturers' Association Limited (PASMA) comprises the major manufacturers of alloy access towers in the UK. The Association's original objectives were to promote the safe use of alloy access towers and to promote the interests of its members to the regulatory and standards authorities. Membership of the Association was confined to manufacturers only, who at that time represented the principle suppliers to the market for both sales and hire.
  • International Powered Access Federation (IPAF)
    International Powered Access Federation (IPAF) promotes the safe and effective use of powered access worldwide. Set up in 1983, IPAF, a not-for-profit members' organisation that represents the interests the interests of manufacturers, distributors, users and rental training companies.
