Southampton: City of Opportunity

You may have noticed this new branding popping up across the city:

Southampton is a city of opportunity with enormous potential.

Our goal is to co-create a place that meets the needs of our diverse communities, as well as attract people and organisations to live, visit, study, work and invest in Southampton. As part of a suite of work that has been under way over the last 12-18 months to support this, including work around master-planning, infrastructure and destination development, we have been working with partners to develop a new city-wide branding.

This city branding has been created so that we can present a unified story and voice about Southampton: its ambitions, achievements and potential. It will raise our profile and reputation regionally, nationally and internationally with a range of stakeholders.

We saw how impactful this can be when our UK City of Culture bid and the associated branding achieved over £18.6m Advertising Equivalent Value and reached over 1.15bn people during the campaign.

Cities across the country have adopted this approach and have impactful profiles across their key focus areas that are similarly patterned to Southampton’s city narrative.

The branding has been designed to be used by all parties on collaborative initiatives and joint campaigns. It does not replace the existing council branding, or that of partners, but complements and amplifies our united approach.

We can’t wait to see what the future of Southampton holds.
