Queens Park

Located in the city centre, Queens Park is listed as one of Southampton's many city centre parks. This small formal park, previously known as 'Porter’s Mead' is surrounded on all sides by mature London Plane trees. Owned by Queens College, Oxford and leased to Southampton City Council on a 99 year lease. The park includes the General Gordon Memorial recording his main military campaigns, notably the Second Opium Wars, where Britain was seeking to force the Chinese to legalise the sale of opium to create a market for opium grown in British controlled provinces of India. Queens Park underwent extensive renovations in 2014 including an extension over the area that was once used as a car park and feature lighting.
