Blue-lid recycling bin

Please think carefully about what goes into your blue-lid recycling bin. If your recycling bin contains items we can’t recycle, it can make the rest of your recycling unusable.

Recycling in Hampshire is collected as a partnership of 11 of Hampshire's district authorities - Portsmouth City Council, Southampton City Council and Hampshire County Council - and waste disposal contractor Veolia Environmental Services. Find out what happens to your recycling.

Recent news about plastic recycling

You may have seen coverage in mainstream media of the increasing restrictions on waste imports. Some of this coverage has led to claims that plastic, in particular, collected for recycling, could end up being incinerated instead of recycled.

Veolia are responsible, under contract for Hampshire local authorities, for identifying and securing markets for the materials collected and achieving best value.

Veolia are identifying new markets to ensure that Hampshire material can continue to be placed to market. With specific regard to plastic, our plastic bottle stream is of good quality and goes through a secondary sorting process before being placed to market in the UK and Europe.
