Apply for a Blue Badge
Application Process
A Blue Badge application can take up to 12 weeks to complete.
If you hold an existing Blue Badge which is due to expire you will need to re-apply for a new badge. We recommend you apply at least 12 weeks before the expiry date. This is to allow sufficient time for the application process and ensure you are not left without a valid Blue Badge, if eligible.
When submitting your application it is important to upload all required supporting information with your application. Failure to provide sufficient supporting information will cause further delay to your application or could lead to your application being declined.
Approved applications
If your application is successful, we will notify you of the decision and ask you to make payment for your Blue Badge. A Blue Badge costs £10 in England. Once payment has been received your badge will be sent for printing and then sent directly to the address provided in your application.
Please note: It can take up to two weeks for your badge to be received.
Important: If you have previously had a Blue Badge(s) which Southampton City Council have not received payment for you will also need to pay any outstanding fees before your new Blue Badge will be issued.
Declined applications
If your application for a Blue Badge is declined, you will need to wait six months before you can re-apply unless your condition has deteriorated substantially.

How to Apply – Individual Blue Badge
To apply for an individual Blue Badge you will need:
- A current photograph if this is your first application or your appearance has changed since you last provided us with a photograph
- Proof of your identity
- Proof of your address (dated within the last 12 months at the time of your application)
- Proof of benefits or supporting medical information (as required, dated within the last 12 months at the time of your application)

How to Apply – Organisational Blue Badge
To apply for an Organisational Blue Badge you will need:
- Up to 30 minutes to complete your application
- Provide details of the vehicles to be used with the badge
- To upload with your application:
- A copy of your UK Registration certificate stating disable passenger vehicles
- Proof of your company address to support the application
- A copy of your company logo

To re-apply for an individual Blue Badge you will need:
- A current photograph if this is your first application or your appearance has changed since you last provided us with a photograph
- Proof of your identity
