Skips on the highway

Where possible, skips should always be placed on private land. If skips need to be placed on any part of the public highway they must be licensed.

The term 'public highway' includes roads, pavements, and verges.

If the skip is to be placed within a pay and display parking bay, you will also need to apply to suspend the pay and display bay for each day the skip is using the parking bay.

Who can apply?

Only registered skip operators who hold £10 million public liability insurance can apply for skip licences.

Please contact a registered skip operator. The skip operator will apply for the necessary licence on your behalf.
