Tier 4 admissions

Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) support young people experiencing mental health challenges. Tier 4 CAMHS services are highly specialised day and inpatient units. They are where young people with more severe mental health problems can be assessed and treated. This can be voluntary, or as a person who have been detained under the Mental Health Act.

A child should continue to receive an education while admitted to Tier 4 CAMHS support. This is most often provided by an independent provider who works with the Tier 4 setting. However, they should strongly engage with the child’s normal school placement to ensure continuity of education. As well as ensure a successful return to school once the child is discharged from Tier 4.

Tier 4 education providers should notify us of any admission or planned admission using our contact form.

Funding for Tier 4 independent provision is subject to our Tier 4 Independent Education Provision Policy.
