Individual Enhanced Casework ‘PLUS’
Collaborative Behaviour-focused Consultations (CBC) and Emotionally Based School Absence (EBSA) consultations
In negotiation, settings can use their purchased time for more in-depth casework which could involve additional time for further consultations, working directly with the child or young person and analysing pre and post intervention measures.
The aim of more enhanced casework (‘Plus’) would be to work collaboratively with the school/college, family, young person and other professionals involved:
- To intervene at the earliest opportunity
- To encourage settings to reflect upon their school/college ethos and work creatively with the resources and capacity available
- To support school/colleges and families in taking a proactive/systemic approach through training and raising awareness of current research in an accessible way
- To encourage schools/colleges to designate key adults or a small network of adults to consistently liaise with the child/young person (CYP) and parents/carers – this helps to build relationships and trust
- To creatively elicit the CYP’s voice and ensure their views are fully represented
- To complete a functional analysis of EBSA/challenging behaviour i.e. what communicative functions is the focus behaviour serving for this young person?
- To ensure the professional network around the child and young person (CYP) have a shared understanding
