The clickable options below explain what your schools and colleges should be supporting you to do to get ready for employment.
Years 9 & 10 (Ages 13-14)

- This is when you choose your options at school.
- Think about what you would like to do as a job. You can find help at the National Careers Service.
- Think about what sort of work experience you might like to do and contact businesses.

Year 11 (Ages 15)

- Southampton post 16 service can support you to explore employment opportunities. You can complete the referral form or email post16education@southampton.gov.uk
- Flying Start can also help you plan the next stages in your education or training. Find out more about Flying Start
- Learn interview skills
- Start to think about whether you want to do an Apprenticeship or apply for jobs
- Start to apply for jobs towards the end of the school year
Year 14 (Age 17)

- Think about volunteering and who you might like to volunteer for.
- Learn how to look for employment/work experience opportunities.
- If you have an Education, Health & Care Plan – think about what do you want to achieve.
- Find out about which benefits you could claim and how you claim them.
- If you want to go to work now you can begin sending job applications.
Post Year 13 (Age 18 onwards)

- Explore who can support you and where to look for a job/work experience.
- Find out about supported internships and see what they are and how they work. You can also think about how you could work as a volunteer and who you would like to volunteer for:
- Decide what you want to achieve and add this to your Education, Health and Care Plan.
