Northam Bridge Park

The slim park on the bridge is grassed with ornamental trees and seats, and views across the Itchen.

The current bridge was built in 1954 of prestressed concrete. It replaced two earlier incarnations. The original bridge was a timber toll bridge in 1799, followed by an Iron toll bridge in 1889. In 1929 ownership of the bridge passed from the Northam Bridge Company to Southampton Corporation (later to be Southampton City Council), when the arrival of the new Woolston floating bridge made Northam Bridge unprofitable.
