Miller's Pond
Miller’s Pond LNR is located to the east of the River Itchen in the middle of Shoreburs Greenway. There is mixed woodland, scrub, open grassland and a large pond, one of the few remaining large ponds in the city. Within the reserve there are areas of acid grassland, wildflower meadow and mixed woodland. This diversity of habitats supports a variety of wildlife including kestrels, roe deer and several species of bat.
The pond is well stocked with coarse fish and is popular with anglers. The area is home to a large population of mallards and herons, little egrets and kingfishers are regular visitors to the pond
Miller’s Pond was designated a Local Nature Reserve in May 2012.
There is a very active community group, The Sholing Valleys Study Centre Association (SVSC). They run a small purpose built study centre located on the northern side of the LNR and organise regular events and conservation tasks. You can find out more about the group on their Facebook page.
