Asylum Green

Named after the Royal Military Asylum which was housed in the former cavalry barracks opposite the green. It consists of open woodland over grassland. It refers to both the strip enclosed by The Avenue highway and the strip to the west.

Part of the renowned green approach to the city centre from the north.

There are two listed monuments on the central island, a stone drinking trough (1865) and a commemorative monument presented to the city to celebrate its 60th birthday (1909).
