East Park

East park

East Park (Andrews Park) retains its Victorian heritage of planting with trees, shrubs, rose beds, herbaceous plants, spring and summer bulbs, bedding, ferns, grasses and bamboos.

The Rockery built in the 1930s is planted with a wide range Alpines, and features two ponds. One is managed to encourage wildlife such as newts, frogs and damsel flies and the other has ornamental fish.

In 2015, the original crazy paving path just to the north of the Titanic Engineers Memorial, was lifted and re-laid. Some of the slabs were removed and replaced with mosaic designs created by the Nicholstown Residents Association, working with local artist Will Rosie. It depicts the wide range of international heritages of Southampton’s residents, which give Southampton its rich culture and identity.

In 2016, the entrance to Park Walk is to be enhanced and moved south a little to align with the portico of the Guildhall via the new street created with the development of the Southampton new arts complex building, linking Guildhall Square with the parks.

A circular mosaic created in 2000 marks the historic site of an old fountain. It is now a peaceful place to sit and contemplate.

The wisteria pergola is always worth walking through but especially in May when the wisteria is in full flower.
