Welcome to the Young Adults Employment Hub

Our Young Adults Employment Hub has been running for nearly six months now, and we thought we would tell you a little bit more about the staff who work on the hub day to day, how we differ and what services we provide.

The Young Adults Employment Hub is made up of professionals from three organisations: Southampton City Council, Southampton Jobcentre (JCP) and No Limits.

Youth Hub Team

Southampton City Council

Francesca works for the Employment Support Team at Southampton City Council and oversees the whole service.

Francesca, Senior Development Officer/Operational Manager, Employment Support Team said: "We can't wait to see how we can help each young person to achieve their goals, we want to offer a service that's welcoming, helpful and a service delivered for young people that is guided by young peoples opinions and suggestions. Welcoming a multitude of different organisations to use the hub and to make it a truly one stop shop for anything employment and training related for young people. We are having so much fun producing our podcast – the job cast, building the physical hub and seeing what else we can do to build on a service that can adapt to the needs of employers and young people in Southampton."

Dan is our digital expert, who leads on the digital youth hub, as well as producing podcasts and managing the team’s social media accounts.

Dan, Senior Employment Officer, Employment Support Team said: "The digital youth hub is an excellent new resource we’ve created to compliment the face to face hub. You can find lots of information about employability, support services and health and wellbeing, as well as CV templates, interview advice and much more. We’ve got lots of exciting new things coming in the next few months, so make sure you’re following us on social media to stay updated!"

Nadine, Gemma and Harry are Employment Officers working within the Employment Support Team at the Council.

Nadine, Gemma and Harry, Employment Officers, Employment Support Team said: "We all work using a person-centred approach.  This means that we help young people to identify their own goals and support them to achieve them.

"We support young people to access training and volunteering if it would support their journey to work as well as write and review CVs, support writing application forms and interview techniques.

"We give information, advice and guidance on a wide range of topics including mental health and criminal conviction disclosure, identifying training opportunities and confidence building.

"We also signpost to other providers in the city for further training and support including the Prince's Trust , Skill2Achieve/ Enham Trust and No Limits."

Southampton Jobcentre (JCP)

Sarah and Chelsey are Work Coaches working within Southampton Jobcentre.

Chelsey, Youth Work Coach, Southampton Jobcentre said: "As your work coach we will work together with you, to find solutions to issues that may prevent you from finding work, as well as looking at career paths and goals. We will match you with suitable Kickstart and job vacancies, support you to volunteer, or go into work experience opportunities as well as referring you for any training that you need to reach your goals."

No Limits

Sian works for No Limits.

Sian, Youth Worker, No Limits said: "My name is Sian and I have been a youth worker at No Limits for over 2 years. I started off as a volunteer and now work at the Advice Centre and on the Young Adults Employment Hub.

"No Limits is primarily an information and advice service for those aged 11-25 in the Southampton area, although we have been able to support young people from the wider Hampshire area and elsewhere.

"I like to say that if there is an issue that can affect a young person, we will work with it.

"As an overview, No Limits can offer information and guidance around housing and homelessness, debt and budgeting, benefits, emotional wellbeing, sexual health, substance misuse, offending, relationships, education, etc. The list really does go on and on!

"We are open 6 days a week, from Monday to Saturday, and are flexible in how we can support young people. We are currently offering face to face appointments, phone chats, email advice or support through our web chat (which is accessible through our website).

"Trained youth workers are on hand to offer up-to-date information and guidance with a non-judgemental approach. If we can't help directly, we will do our utmost to help find the most appropriate service for you.

I look forward to working with you and supporting you to achieve your goals."

We hope that this gives you some idea about the different skills we bring to the team.  The best thing about the Young Adult Employment Hub is that we all work together to ensure that young people's needs are met.  We collaborate to ensure there's no repetition of our work.

Now Open – The Young Adults Employment Hub at Central Library

Up until now, we have been working remotely, doing appointments by phone or video call.  We are pleased to announce that our physical Hub is now open upstairs at Central Library, and you can arrange to meet with your support worker face to face.  Our new space is Covid-secure, and a welcoming place to come and visit.  This will soon be ready for walk-ins, not quite yet, so please contact your support worker to make an appointment.
