Students in Southampton receive their GCSE results
Well done to every student!
Like the A-Level results earlier this month, this year’s GCSE results also reflect the on-going impact of the pandemic on students, who have had their learning over the last few years severely disrupted by school and college closures and the effect of the Coronavirus on individuals.
The exam results shared by schools currently are as follows:
English:
- Sixty nine percent (69%) of students achieved grades 9-4
- Fifty three percent (53%) of students achieved grades 9-5
Maths:
- Sixty five percent (65%) of students achieved grades 9-4
- Forty six percent (45%) of students achieved grades 9-5
Well done to every student who received their GCSE results today.
Cabinet Member for Children and Learning, Councillor Alex Winning said, “Well done to everyone receiving their results today. I know how stressful and challenging exams season and results day can be.
As a city we are all so proud of you and what you have achieved. The dedication and hard work you have put in does not go unnoticed. Good luck to all of you for the whatever the future may hold, whether that be college, apprenticeships, or employment.
Thank you to our school colleagues who have supported our young people and thank you for your resilience and determination to ensure students achieve the best they can. You all do a fantastic job every single day in often challenging circumstances.
If you didn’t get the results you were hoping for, please do not think that this will in any way define your future. It’s okay to not know what path you want to take yet – I left school at 16 with a handful of GCSEs, went to college and left after a year deciding to move into the world of work. There are brilliant support services available to help you understand your options and decide what you’d like to do next.”
Grow People has advice and guidance to support any pupils who may be disappointed with their results or seeking advice on their next steps i.e. T-Levels or apprenticeships. Visit results day, call the Exam Results Helpline 0800 100 900 or pop into the Young People’s Hub in the Civic Centre and talk to the City Ambitions Team; every Monday (2-4pm), there is no need to book.
