Southampton City Council Vehicle Removals Policy

The Council is launching a 12-week public consultation on a proposed update to its Vehicle Removals Policy

The council currently carries out vehicle removals for cases where vehicles have been abandoned as well as within the defined tow away zone around St. Marys Stadium on stadium event days. The additional vehicle removal processes that the council is consulting on are as follows:

• Vehicles parked in contravention of a restriction that are causing a hazard or obstruction
• Vehicles defined as a persistent evader of Penalty Charge Notices
• Vehicles displaying a fraudulent/altered/wholly imitation or invalid disabled badge
• Vehicles displaying a fraudulent/altered/wholly imitation or invalid permit, visitor scratch card or pay and display ticket

This will enable the council to address issues where vehicles are parked in a manner that causes a significant disruption, as well tackling individual drivers who consistently park in contravention of parking restrictions.

People can review the policy and submit their views on these proposals via the consultation page.

Printed copies of the consultation are available on request in any Southampton City Council run library.

Once the consultation period has concluded, the feedback will be included within a report to Cabinet with a recommendation on whether to adopt the proposals. If Cabinet determines to implement the proposals, there will be a further 21-day statutory consultation on making provision for these vehicle removal processes within the relevant legal orders.

The consultation closes on 28 February 2023.
