Southampton City Council’s Leader, Cabinet, Shadow Cabinet, Mayor and Sheriff announced
Key roles announced at Full Council meeting
Councillor Christopher Hammond has been formally re-elected as the Leader of Southampton City Council at the Full Council Meeting today (15 May).
Following the local election on Thursday 2 May, where 16 out of 48 seats (one in every ward of the city) were contested, the Labour group were retained as the council’s Executive with an overall majority of eleven seats on the council.
The Executive will now comprise the following roles:
- Councillor Christopher Hammond - Leader
- Councillor Jacqui Rayment - Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Place and Transport
- Councillor Stephen Barnes-Andrews - Cabinet Member for Resources
- Councillor Satvir Kaur - Cabinet Member for Homes and Culture
- Councillor Darren Paffey - Cabinet Member for Aspiration, Children and Lifelong Learning
- Councillor Dave Shields - Cabinet Member for Healthier and Safer City
- Councillor Lorna Fielker - Cabinet Member for Adult Care
- Councillor Steve Leggett - Cabinet Member for Green City and Environment
The Shadow Cabinet will comprise the following roles:
- Councillor Daniel Fitzhenry - Leader of the Conservative Group and Shadow Cabinet Member for Economic Growth and Housing
- Councillor John Hannides - Shadow Cabinet Member for Finance, Leisure and Culture
- Councillor Steven Galton - Shadow Cabinet Member for Environment and Transport (including Planning)
- Councillor James Baillie - Shadow Cabinet Member for Children’s and Education
- Councillor Ivan White - Shadow Cabinet Member for Health & Wellbeing
Southampton’s new Mayor and Sheriff were also sworn in. Councillor Peter Baillie became the city’s 797th Mayor while Councillor Sue Blatchford takes on the role of the 582nd Sheriff. Both will hold the posts for the next year.
