Part-night lighting starts on Tuesday 4 April
From Tuesday 4 April, we will be starting 'part-night lighting' in most residential roads outside of the city centre.
The lights in these areas will be switched off between 1am and 4am.
This initiative is in response to increased energy costs and a need to reduce our energy usage across the council and as part of our commitment to reducing our carbon footprint.
Many councils, including Hampshire, have already introduced part-night lighting. We have also consulted closely with the police and lights will not be switched off on roads where there are concerns about the potential effect on crime. We have also consulted with the public, and 67% of respondents were supportive of the initiative.
From Tuesday 4 April you will be able to check on our partner website to see if a light is part of this initiative and FAQs will be added to our Street lighting page.
