‘Little Bears in Care’ appear all over Southampton

Southampton City Council campaign set to raise awareness of fostering in the city

A teddy bear wearing a Fostering Southampton t-shirtIn support of ‘Foster Care Fortnight’ a nationwide awareness raising campaign for fostering run by The Fostering Network, seventeen Southampton City Council ‘Little Bears in Care’ will be appearing at a variety of locations across the city. The theme of this year’s Foster Care Fortnight is ‘The Power of Relationships’ and our ‘Little Bears in Care’ trail shares the stories of children and young people in foster care.

Every bear is different, just like the children and young people they represent, and every story shares a unique experience. Just like Little Bear Aleksander, who shares the story of an eight-year-old who sadly lost their mummy and now lives with one of our wonderful foster carers. Aleksander’s story is incredibly moving and highlights why foster carers are so important to young children and teenagers. Our ‘Little Bears in Care’ demonstrate the power of relationships and the impact they have on the lives of those living in care.

The ‘Little Bears in Care’ trail will be running all through Foster Care Fortnight which begins on Monday 12 May. Visit fostering and download a copy of the ‘Little Bears Checklist’ to get started. Then simply find a bear and scan the QR code to read more.

Councillor Alex Winning, Cabinet Member for Children and Learning said:

“Foster Care Fortnight is a key time of year for local authorities to collectively promote fostering up and down the country. We urgently need more foster carers and the Southampton ‘Little Bears in Care’ trail is a great way for families and individuals to hear from children and young people about their lives in care.”

The trail will end on Sunday 25 May.
