Have your say on our Green Infrastructure and Biodiversity consultations

We are excited to announce the launch of two important consultations that aim to gather the voices of our residents and businesses to help shape our city environment and achieve the goals we set out in our Green City Plan

The aim of the Biodiversity Strategy is to halt the decline of biodiversity in Southampton, strengthen habitat connections, improve the condition of our valuable semi-natural habitats, and protect and enhance the rich biodiversity of Southampton.

Our city is home to a diverse range of habitats and species; as a council, we are committed to protecting and improving our natural heritage to ensure that future generations can enjoy the benefits of a healthy and resilient city.

By participating in the consultation, the public will have the opportunity to input into our Biodiversity Strategy. This is a key document supporting our green city plan, outlining how we can all play our part in nature conservation, restoration of habitat and creating a more linked and greener Southampton.

The Green Infrastructure Strategy complements the Biodiversity Strategy by ensuring we have a framework that will improve the spaces that our wildlife depend upon whilst enhancing and linking up our natural and built environments within our city and adjoining land. With our diversity of parks, semi-natural spaces and two chalk rivers (Test and Itchen) flowing through the city into the Solent; we have a wealth of green infrastructure for such an urban setting although much of it is fragmented.

We want to hear from the public on how we can improve these spaces to create a greener and healthier environment for all. Residents are encouraged to participate in these consultations online before 4 October 2023 to have their say.
