Get set for Christmas in Southampton
Plans are well underway for Christmas in Southampton this year, benefitting residents, visitors and local businesses
S&D Leisure will be returning to operate the Christmas market between Friday 15 November 2024 and Thursday 5 January 2025. Residents and visitors can enjoy the traditional German market with a variety of stalls, food options and bars, as well as spectacular lights, rides and entertainment for all ages.
GO! Southampton will host the annual Countdown to Christmas event, sponsored by Brackenwood Windows from Friday 15 to Sunday 17 November. This family favourite event will see live performances, music and so much more before the city centre is illuminated by thousands of twinkling lights. The mainstage entertainment will start at 6pm before the lights get turned on just before 8pm. Friday night will also be the premier showing of the market’s light show on the iconic Bargate, run and managed by S&D Leisure as part of the Christmas market. On Saturday and Sunday there will be free activities for families to get involved with including gonk-making workshops at Southampton City Art Gallery and many more activities still to be announced.
Father Christmas will also be meeting and greeting children at Tudor House and Garden on weekends between Saturday 7 December and Monday 23 December. Families can also enjoy a variety of Christmas themed crafts and activities throughout December. Festive workshops, activities and Father Christmas can be booked on the Tudor House and Garden website.
Westquay On Ice returns on Friday 22 November and promises visitors a Winter Wonderland filled with ice skating, shopping and dining. Tickets can be booked online.
Mayflower Theatre will be hosting Ashley Banjo and Diversity, and Kev Orkian in their pantomime Jack and The Beanstalk between Saturday 14 December and Thursday 5 January.
Southampton City Council’s well supported Toy Appeal will be back from 15 November through to 20 December. We are looking for new, unwrapped toys and gifts for every age from birth to 18 years of age. If you are a business looking to support the appeal or you would like to donate, please visit the website where you will find everything from gift ideas to drop off locations.
Councillor Lorna Fielker, Leader of Southampton City Council said:
“Christmas in Southampton is always a magical time, and I’m really excited about this year’s offer. From free family fun and unforgettable experiences to creative workshops and activities, there is something for everyone. Southampton is the place to be this festive period – so bring your friends, families and guests to join in the fun whilst supporting our businesses and local economy.
“I’m also incredibly proud of our Toy Appeal efforts to ensure that every child in Southampton can enjoy a few gifts this Christmas. Every toy and gift donated will ensure that no child or young person in Southampton will feel forgotten.”
Stephen Manion Executive Director at GO! Southampton added:
"We can't wait to celebrate our Countdown to Christmas event weekender to kickstart the festive activity in the city. We encourage everyone to shop, eat and explore local this Christmas - it's an important time to support local businesses in the city and enjoy Southampton's fantastic offer."
