Destination in sight for new Woolston Travel Hub as works to begin

Works are set to start on the delivery of the exciting new Woolston Travel Hub on Monday 22 April

The Woolston Travel Hub, funded by the Department for Transport’s Transforming Cities Fund, will provide access to a range of sustainable travel options in one location, linking with Woolston Station and the bus interchange on Cooper’s Lane to provide easier, more convenient access to sustainable transport for local and onward journeys.

The works will deliver infrastructure improvements such as new pedestrian crossings, resurfacing, upgraded lighting, cycle lanes and new wayfinding and real-time public transport information alongside e-bike and e-scooter share, electric vehicle charging points, and car club bays.

The active travel options included will synergise with the Woolston and Itchen Active Travel Zone and Eastern Quietway route which are making walking, wheeling, and cycling easier and safer across the area as well as Southern Railway’s recently announced plan to increase the number of trains calling at Woolston Station, which comes into effect in June.

The Woolston Travel Hub installation works are expected to take approximately nine weeks and during this time Colonnade Car Park will be closed. The works will take place on site between 7am and 5pm each weekday (excluding bank holidays) and 7am to 1pm on Saturdays.

“The goal for all of our recent improvement works in and around Woolston is to ensure that people have good access to affordable, convenient, and sustainable modes of transport, enabling a genuine choice of how to travel for any one journey.

“We have been working in partnership with local people on a range of improvements to make sustainable travel options more viable for those people that can use them, and Woolston Travel Hub is a key part in tying all of the recent improvements together and allowing connected, sustainable journeys locally, across Southampton and beyond.”
