Students excitedly viewing their results

Today we celebrate all our young people in the city receiving their A Level results.

The results for Southampton’s colleges and sixth forms for this year are as follows:

  • 11.5% of A-Level entries achieved a grade A* or A, an increase of 0.1% from 2024 (11.4%)
  • 32.0% of A-Level entries achieved an A* - B grade, a decrease of 0.3% from 2024 (32.3%)
  • 56.3% of A-Level entries achieved a grade C or above, an increase of 0.2% from 2024 (56.1%)

Clodagh Freeston, Head of Education Services said: “Congratulations to all students receiving their A Level results today. We recognise the hard work and determination that has brought you to this important milestone. This year’s results are broadly in line with last year with a slight increase in the percentage of students achieving an A* or A grade. We encourage all students to visit the Southampton City Council results webpage to explore the range of options available as you plan your next steps. Congratulations again, and best wishes for your future.”

Councillor Amanda Barnes-Andrews, Cabinet Member for Children and Learning said: “As a parent I know that awaiting exam results is a nerve-wracking experience. I hope every young person opening an envelope this morning gets the results they hoped for and can be excited about the next steps, be these in education or work. For those whose results were not as predicted, there are a range of options available to explore. We have a fantastic Post 16 Options team who can discuss next steps with you.”

The Department of Education published a summary release for T Levels at a national and regional level only. The number of students completing T Levels in 2025 is low with almost 12,000 studied nationally compared with nearly 900,000 A Levels. Within the South East region there were 1872 completed for 2024-25, but there is no council breakdown of this data currently available.
