Working to keep homes safe and well maintained

We are constantly looking at ways to improve the housing service and ensure you are happy with your home and local neighbourhood. So we are introducing periodic visits to provide you with an opportunity to discuss any issues with housing staff

These visits, known as periodic tenancy checks, serve as an important health check for your property, and will help ensure we keep homes safe and well maintained. By conducting regular visits around every five years we can check the condition of all council housing to identify and organise any repairs needed. We hope this will help us to catch any repair problems early which in turn will help to save time, money and inconvenience.

As well as enabling us to assess that your home is safe and in good condition, the periodic tenancy check is also an opportunity for you to talk to your local Housing Management Officer about any concerns you may have. These could be concerns with your home or neighbourhood, or to discuss other aspects of your tenancy, for example, if you’re struggling to pay your rent or if your personal situation has changed since you moved in.

You will receive details of when our staff will visit your home to conduct the check. Please make sure that you are in at the agreed time to provide access or let us know if you need to rearrange the appointment to a more convenient time.

During the visit we will:

  • Check on the overall condition of the property and outside areas
  • Identify any work needed and order repairs
  • Talk about any support needs you or your family may have and discuss how we can help
  • Ensure the tenancy details are all correct and there is no evidence of tenancy fraud
  • Check the property meets legal safety standards and that smoke detectors are working
  • Ask if you have any concerns or issues with your home or in the neighbourhood that you would like us to address

If you haven’t yet received details of your periodic tenancy check but would like to discuss an issue with your home, tenancy or neighbourhood or report a repair please just get in touch.
