Festive front door etiquette!

Get your home Christmas-ready without causing any damage (and costly repair bills) to your front door

Just follow our easy wreath hanging tips to ensure your entrance looks festive and stays safe this season.

If you live in a flat, your front door is specially designed to protect you from smoke and fire. But it only works properly if it is not tampered with. That means you should never mark, drill, or hammer into it, and you could face a hefty repair or replacement cost if you do.

But don’t worry, there are several simple and easy ways to attach a wreath or Christmas decoration to your front door, without affecting its safety:

  • Use a wreath hanger which hooks around the top of the door
  • Place a sticky picture hook upside down on the inside of the door. Then, attach a long piece of string to your wreath, run this over the top of the door and loop it around the hook on the inside
  • Alternatively, loop coloured ribbon around the wreath and then pull the two ends of the ribbon up and over the top of the door and attach on the inside using double-sided tape or Velcro. This will anchor your ribbon and hold the wreath in place

Once you’ve hung your wreath, please keep all other Christmas ornaments and decorations inside your flat. Remember that communal areas in blocks such as walkways and corridors need to be kept clear all the time as these are your escape routes in case of emergency. You shouldn’t place decorations or any other items on the floor outside your home.
