Worried about back to school expenses?

Worried about back to school expenses?
Firstly, check if your child is entitled to receive free school meals. Families with primary school children can save up to £450 a year through free school meals, nearly £40 a month, while the savings are higher for secondary school students. Those who are eligible for free school meals also get access to our Holiday, Activity and Food (HAF) programme which offers free childcare, activities, and a healthy lunch during the Easter, summer, and Christmas holidays.
Supermarket food vouchers may also be available through the Household Support Fund (HSF) which was established to help those most need with the cost of essentials. If you are being supported by a practitioner, like a social worker, or by an advice service, they can make a referral on your behalf if you are facing financial hardship and need help and support. If you are not already being supported, talk to Southampton Citizens Advice for help.
If you are struggling to afford the cost of school uniform, you can apply to the Wulfris Educational Foundation for a voucher that can be used to purchase clothing, books, or equipment for school. It is also worth checking if your school or other local parents pass on pre-loved uniform rather than buying new.
Remember, if you are feeling under financial pressure, there is lots of free support available to help you. It’s quick and easy to check you’re receiving all the benefits you’re entitled to. Plus, the Government’s MoneyHelper website has free information and resources to help you manage your money, keep up with essential bills and payments, and tackle debt. There are useful guides on living on a squeezed income with lots of tips on how to boost your income, save money on household bills, and find out if you’re eligible for extra help.
