Energy saving and other works carried out to three tower blocks at Thornhill
Last updated: June 2025
Background
An energy-saving works programme was carried out at Thornhill between 2015 and 2017. These works included External Wall Insulation (EWI), new windows, solar panels on the roof and a new roof.
Issues were identified as part of the works that were being carried out in the building. This resulted in the council carrying out further investigations, which also uncovered a greater range of issues.
The council appointed independent, technical experts, to investigate these issues. These experts have and continue to inspect the issues raised at Thornhill. The issues relate to External Wall Insultation (EWI) and fire safety.
Southampton City Council is leading on rectifying these issues and will therefore be identifying the works that need to be carried out and will be commissioning these works.
