Canberra Towers energy refurbishment project

Canberra Towers is a high-rise tower block, with 144 two-bedroom flats located prominently on Weston Shore.

An energy refurbishment project was scheduled to commence early 2025, to include the following improvements:

  • New windows
  • New roof
  • External wall insulation
  • Improved ventilation
  • Balcony refurbishment

However, following the first Regulator of Social Housing audit last year, the council have now had to review and re-prioritise its city-wide plans and services. The report identified some significant failings in how the council was performing as a social landlord. In response, we developed a Housing Improvement Plan prioritising investment decisions that addressed the areas of poor performance outlined in the regulatory findings.

This means that the Canberra Towers project is currently paused and is unlikely to have the same improvement works completed as planned.

We are committed to keeping residents informed and we plan to update again during the autumn.

If you would like to read the report again, you can view it on the Government’s website.
