Are you missing out on money each month?
Are you missing out on money each month?
Ann, a tenant from Peartree has not only boosted her monthly income but also received a back payment worth several thousand pounds, after a chat with our Welfare Rights and Money Advice team. She says she would encourage anyone struggling with money worries to check their entitlement and to not feel ashamed or embarrassed to ask for support.
Ann said:
“I was once told that because I have a small workplace pension, that meant I wouldn't be entitled to Pension Credit and Iike a fool, I believed it. It was only after attending a talk by the Welfare Rights team at the Supported Housing Forum, did I learn the truth. I approached one of the team who called me back the next day and told me that, because I had already claimed some Attendance Allowance I should in fact be receiving additional benefits including Pension Credit. It also entitled me to a big rebate on my rent and council tax too. I couldn’t believe it! This is going to make such a big difference to me as previously, finances were a struggle and I often had to live off credit, which meant getting into debt.
“I was always ashamed that I struggled with finances, and pride meant that I’ve never contacted the Welfare Rights team before. How wrong was I? They were absolutely brilliant and so supportive. If you’re struggling financially, I can't encourage you enough to talk check if you are missing out on any benefits and to talk to the Welfare Rights team. It doesn’t hurt to ask and who knows how much you could receive as a result?”
