Southampton ferry firm finishes terminal first phase redevelopment
The work is part of a wider plan to improve the facility and offer a more enjoyable travel experience for travellers. The works are budgeted to cost in and around the £2m mark.
Part of the renovation project includes the addition of four brand new check-in booths to replace those destroyed when an HGV lorry collided with the old ones in September 2021.
The yard's vehicle entrance has also been entirely resurfaced in order to correct some of the levelling in the terminal marshalling yard. In addition, designated illuminated signage for each of the waiting lanes has been created so that visibility for customers travelling in the dark will be significantly improved.
Fran Collins is the Chief Executive Officer of Red Funnel. She had this to say about the works:
“These upgrades will ensure a smoother check-in experience for customers ahead on the summer season. By re-levelling our marshalling yard, we are enabling teams to check in passengers faster and more efficiently. The wider terminal investment will improve overall customer experience and build resilience into our operation.”
