River Itchen to Hamble Coastal Study
The River Itchen, Weston Shore, Netley and Hamble Coastal Study was completed in November 2011 with a focus on coastal erosion and flood risk within the study area.
Initially the study was designed to deliver a formal Coastal Defence Strategy, however due to a minimal need in the study area for coastal erosion or flood defence schemes it was not considered appropriate to take the study forward to produce a Strategy.
Notwithstanding this, the study has been a valuable resource.
- It provided technical input to the North Solent Shoreline Management Plan 2010
- The study will provide technical support for any future coastal projects and schemes
- It supports the hierarchy of plans that apply to the coastline
- It will provides a starting point, should it prove necessary in the future, to review the need for a formal strategy
