Help us deliver elections in Southampton
We're recruiting!
It is a big task undertaking the delivery of an election, as well as to compile and publish an updated register of electors each year. Here in Southampton, we are always looking for temporary staff to help us with the annual canvass, or on polling day.
Usually an election happens on the first Thursday in May, however, at times staff are required for unscheduled elections at short notice. You can help by working in one of our polling stations across the city, or at the count.
The annual canvass takes place from July to December, and from early September we need staff to canvass addresses in the city to gather names for the electoral register.
How to apply
If you are 18 or over and interested in working for us, please fill in one or both forms below. A member of the elections team will then contact you and add your details to our database to be considered for future vacancies. Please note that being on our database does not guarantee employment.

Entitlement to work in the UK
If you are appointed to any of these positions, you will have to show you are entitled to work in the UK. You will need to provide one of the following:
- A valid passport, or
- A full birth certificate issued in the UK, Channel Islands, Isle of Man or Ireland, plus an official document giving your permanent National Insurance number, or
- A residence permit, registration certificate or document showing you are entitled to live in the UK permanently
