The City of Southampton has a council of 51 members or councillors who make decisions on matters affecting the city. The city is divided into 17 wards and each ward is represented by three councillors who are appointed for a term of four years.
There is a casual vacancy in the office of councillor for the Shirley ward of the city. A by-election will be held on 10 October 2024.
