  • Time: 9am-3pm
  • Venue: Highpoint Centre

Training content

Delegates will explore the key messages from the reading framework and consider the impact this has on the planning and teaching of reading in year 5. They will share with colleagues how reading is taught in their setting and identify next steps within their own practice.

Delegates will develop an understanding of end Key Stage 2 (KS2) expectations in writing and consider the key teaching points from the national curriculum so that the teaching of writing is appropriately pitched in Year 5. They will unpick the key messages from Ofsted’s English Subject Report and review areas for development for their pupils, including the teaching of spellings. Training will be delivered on the teaching of dialogue within narrative writing.

Delegates will have the opportunity to hear from another Southampton school about their approach to teaching writing in year 5. Teachers will have time to explore colleagues’ books so that best practice is shared across year 5 teachers within the city.
