It is a requirement that anyone who works with children and young people has up to date and appropriate safeguarding training to their role.
- Organisations should also consult their relevant statutory guidance as to how often their safeguarding training needs to be refreshed
- Education settings should refer to the Department of Education statutory guidance Keeping Children Safe in Education
- Early Years and Childcare providers should refer to the EYFS Statutory Framework
- All education and childcare settings must have Safeguarding Designated Lead/s
- Childminders must take the lead responsibility themselves

Education Welfare Team
Southampton Education Welfare Service provides safeguarding training for Designated Safeguarding Leads in Southampton in line with Keeping Children Safe in Education, as well as an offer for other professionals seeking safeguarding awareness training.
The Education Welfare Service also offer bespoke courses regarding safeguarding training for your settings; including a new offer of Online Internet Safety training for parents/carers in all settings.
The cost for this training is £125 per hour and any bespoke requirements can be discussed further.
However please note we do not deliver bespoke DSL New to Role or DSL Update, as this training offer is set at regular dates across the academic year with dedicated professionals confirmed and booked to deliver this training.
