Cold calling on your doorstep

Doorstep crime often occurs when traders call unannounced (often referred to as ‘cold calling’) and persuade householders to pay excessive amounts for unnecessary work.

You should not deal with people who ‘cold call’ at your door trying to sell goods, or telling you they can do the work on your property cheaply. If you think you may require work on your property find a trader who has been checked by Trading Standards on the Buy With Confidence list.

You do not have to answer the door to people you do not know or do not expect to call. If they do not leave when asked or if they use threatening or abusive language call the Police.
