Wheelchair accessible vehicles
In accordance with the Equality Act 2010 Southampton City Council produces a list of vehicles licensed as either a hackney carriage or a private hire vehicle wheelchair accessible. The list of Wheelchair Accessible vehicles designated for the purpose of Section 165 of the Act is produced on the below link.
There are 71 hackney carriages licensed by Southampton City Council that are wheelchair accessible. In addition to this there are a number of private hire vehicles and companies licensed by Southampton City Council that provide wheelchair accessible vehicles.

In line with the legislation and guidance Southampton City Council Licensing committee has agreed a policy for drivers to apply for a medical exemption. A copy of this policy is available via the below link. Any driver issued with an exemption will be given a certificate as below. This will need to be displayed in the vehicle they are driving.
