Hackney carriage and Private Hire temporary vehicles
Temporary vehicles to be licensed.
From time to time there may be occasions when a vehicle is defective either because of accident damage or mechanical breakdown. In such cases we are able to licence a replacement vehicle for the period that the vehicle remains unfit.
We will licence such a vehicle for a period of not more than two months and during this time the vehicle being replaced will have its licence suspended.
Costs
- For a hackney carriage, the cost is £105
- For a private hire vehicle, the cost is £129
These costs include the licence, plate and identity sticker fees.

Payment card
V5 registration document
Appropriate certificate of insurance
Covering letter from the owner(s) of the vehicle authorising the driver(s) to use the vehicle as a hackney carriage or private hire. In the case of a limited company, the authorisation must come from a Bonafide company as defined by the Companies Act 2006. This owner must also be the registered keeper
Meter certificate programmed to the correct tariff- If the vehicle has been modified (not purpose built), an IVA certificate
Completed mechanical inspection form from Adams Morey
What happens next
A member of the licensing team will contact you once the application has been processed and the licence has been granted to arrange plating of the vehicle.
