To operate a public weighbridge, you must have a certificate of competence issued by the Chief Inspector for Weights and Measures for your local authority.
Before you fill in this form
You won't be able to save this form to complete later, so please allow yourself at least five minutes to fill in the form.
Following your application you will be contacted within five working days to arrange a mutually convenient date for you to be tested by an Inspector of Weights and Measures at the premises where the weighing or measuring equipment is located. Tacit consent does not apply, it is a legal requirement that the authority must process your application and you must be tested before a certificate can be granted. If you have not heard from the local authority within a reasonable period, please contact us.
Failed application redress
Please contact us in the first instance.
You may appeal to the National Measurement Office if your application is refused.
Consumer complaint
In the event of a complaint the first contact is made with the trader by you - preferably in the form of a letter (with proof of delivery). If that has not worked, if you are located in the UK,
Consumer Rights will give you advice. From outside the UK contact the UK European Consumer Centre
