Questions about small business rate relief

Do I have to apply for small business rate relief (SBRR)?

Your bill will automatically be calculated on the lower multiplier if the rateable value is below £51,000.

If your property has a rateable value below £15,000 you may be eligible for an additional percentage reduction. To apply, complete the online form:

What happens if I occupy a second property after SBRR has been granted on my first property?

If you subsequently occupy another property, in any local authority, you will continue to qualify for this reduction on your existing property for up to a year.

If you currently occupy more than one business property, the percentage reduction is only available if the rateable value of each of the other properties is not more than £2,899 (and the combined value is below £20,000).

Your bill will still be calculated on the lower small business multiplier even if you occupy a second property.

Remember: You should notify the Council if you take up occupation of an additional property or there is an increase in the rateable value of a property that you occupy outside this Council’s area.

Do empty properties qualify for SBRR?

No. SBRR can not be claimed in respect of an unoccupied property.
