Your bin
Each household in Southampton will have two bins:
- A green lid for general waste
- A blue lid for recycling
Each household will also have a box for glass recycling.
If your house has insufficient storage space for a bin then you will be issued rolls of black and clear sacks that are delivered twice a year and must only be presented for collection on the scheduled collection day.
Blocks of flats usually have larger communal or shared bins and an igloo or wheeled bin for glass recycling.

Changing your bin
Before you contact us to request a change in bin size, please check the size of your current bin. The standard size of a bin issued to Southampton households is 240L.

We aim to respond to requests within eight weeks. If your request is approved we aim to exchange your bin within four weeks from the date of approval.
