We're looking for heroes

Have you got a neighbour who has gone above and beyond the call of duty to look out for others? Maybe you know a good Samaritan who shops and cooks for vulnerable neighbours, or someone who donates their time to support local good causes? This is your chance to help shine a light on our unsung heroes so we can all say thank you and recognise the invaluable contribution these shining stars make to our communities.

To nominate someone for a Stars in the Community award simply get in touch with our Tenant Engagement Team before 16 August 2021.

All the nominees will be celebrated at the Tenant Conference on 16 September, and the audience will vote for a winner on the night.

As well as celebrating community heroes, the Summer Tenant Conference will also be an opportunity to find out more about the range of tenant involvement activities going on across the city. The event is chaired and presented by tenants and is a chance to listen to how various tenant groups are working successfully to improve their communities in ways such as organising clean ups, holding social events and activities or challenging the council to improve our services.

Last year’s conference was held online, but if restrictions allow, we are hoping the 2021 summer conference will return to The Novotel hotel on 16 September where we can once again meet in person (following COVID safety guidelines of course). In addition to celebrating tenants’ successes at the conference, our Annual Housing Report is another opportunity for us to share real stories and real experiences from tenants across the city. The Annual Report will be available later this year, but we are working on the document now and we want to hear from you and your neighbours. Please get in touch to tell us if you overcame a challenge during the pandemic, or if you have experienced something in lockdown that stands out as a story to tell.
