Stay fire aware and stay safe
We’re committed to keeping you safe and continue to invest in our ongoing fire safety programme.
In recent years we have installed sprinklers into a number of blocks. Sprinklers have proved to be extremely effective in extinguishing fires and preventing flames from spreading. If you have had sprinklers installed in your flat you don’t have to worry about them going off accidentally, like if you burn your toast or create steam when cooking. They will only activate if there is a fire in your flat and only the sprinkler head closest to the fire will trigger.
Sprinklers can quickly and effectively put out a fire in your home and could save your life. But for them to work properly it’s vital you follow this advice:
- Never cover the sprinkler heads with wallpaper or paint
- Keep furniture and other items away from the sprinkler head so the spray of water will not be blocked
As well as ensuring the sprinklers can work effectively, there are lots of other little things you can do to improve safety in your home and block. For example, always keep communal areas and walkways clear, never smoke in bed and never wedge open fire doors. For lots more useful advice about how to keep your home safe and prevent the risk of fires, read our useful guide for fire safety in your home.
As well as investing in extra safety measures in homes including sprinklers, we have also appointed a fire risk assessor to take an independent look at our properties. The fire risk assessor will identify any fire hazards and advise what precautions can be taken to keep residents safe.
