Christmas treats for our Junior Neighbourhood Wardens

The popular Junior Neighbourhood Warden scheme is free to join and open to children aged 7-12. Through fun community projects and activities, youngsters are encouraged to develop a sense of pride and respect in their local neighbourhood – whilst making new friends and learning new things along the way. During October half term the Junior Wardens helped to celebrate Afghan Day at The Ropewalk Centre in St Mary’s and lots of families joined us at two successful pop-up play events in Bitterne and Harefield. Twenty four children learnt valuable first aid skills during a three-day training programme with Mini Medics. And old and young came together at Fairfax Court in Thornhill for a series of intergenerational activities including pumpkin carving and mosaic making.

This month the Junior Neighbourhood Wardens will be helping at free Christmas playschemes in Weston. Run in partnership with SPCA between 21 and 23 December, the fun activities will be open to all over 5s and Santa will even be making an appearance at his grotto at Weston Adventure Playground in the afternoon of 23 December. As well as the Junior Neighbourhood Warden Scheme there are other ways for children and young people to get involved and help make a difference to their communities. If you’re aged 11-25 you can join the Youth Forum Southampton and give your opinions on a wide range of local issues. It’s free to join and will enable you to influence how services are delivered, highlight issues you feel need to be reviewed, and help shape public services for your community.
